LAHORE :On the direction of Punjab IG Police Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan a crackdown against juvenile drivers and traffic rules violators has been launched across the province under supervision of Traffic DIG Muhammad Farooq Mazhar.
From January to October, traffic police has impounded 4,71,347 vehicles whereas 35,828 drivers have been arrested which is 4.3 percent more than the ratio of previous year. DIG Traffic said from January to October 53,67,029 traffic violation tickets have been issued and violators were fined approximately Rs1.897 billion. Moreover, checking of oil tankers and unauthorized number plates have also been carried over on weekly and monthly basis.
The violators were fined and cases have been lodged against them. Due to strict measures of traffic police road accidents have declined 3.73 percent. He said in order to avoid traffic accidents on highway, traffic police Punjab has arranged 622 televisions and 894 FM radio awareness programmes. In addition, 709 traffic awareness walks, 376 traffic weeks, 1,250 traffic days have been arranged. 15,450 hording boards and banners have been applied for public awareness. 11,07,051 handbills have been distributed among masses.
PRU: Mujahid and Dolphin Police Superintendent on Thursday visited Qurban Lines and inspected personnel carriers of Police Response Unit (PRU). He suspended the AMTO for negligence in duty and issued show cause notices to two drivers. He also announced commendatory certificates for PRU Ichhra staff for properly maintaining the vehicles.
