Four die as vehicles crash into container

LAHORE :At least four people died and several sustained injuries when multiple vehicles collided with a container parked by a roadside on GT Road here on Sunday.
The vehicles which crashed into the container included a car, a rickshaw and a van. According to police reports, speeding caused the accident. Two women, a teenage boy and a child died while several others suffered injuries in the accident. The bodies have been removed to morgue and the injured to hospital. Police have impounded all vehicles and registered a case against the accused. Investigation into the accident is underway.
Seminar: Effective planning and implementation of traffic rules can help curtail fatal road accidents, which are claiming the precious human lives to the volume of 1.3 million across the world and 13,000 in Pakistan annually.
This was unanimously acknowledged by speakers at a road safety seminar and quiz held on "World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. The event was organised by National Highways and Motorway Police with the collaboration of Lahore Press Club at Fiaz Ahmed Fiaz Auditorium at the club. The seminar was attended by DIG Masroor Alam Kolachi, DSP Headquarters Mansoor Javed and people from different walks of life.
Event: The City Traffic Police organised a ceremony in connection with World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims here on Sunday. The DIG security and the chief traffic officer (CTO) along with the families of those who had lost their lives in road accidents lit candles at Faisal Chowk. The CTO said 80 percent accidents took place due to the drivers’ negligence, four percent due to mechanical fault and 16 percent due to bad road conditions, rain and fog. The DIG security said that the ratio of accidents could be reduced by inculcating the traffic sense among the citizens.

violations. Similarly, PHP arrested three persons for using fake registration number plates on their vehicles and six for being drunk. PHP arrested four gamblers.
Dies: A bike rider was killed and another injured by a car near Gulzar Underpass on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Sarfraz and the body was removed to morgue. The injured bike rider, yet to be identified, was rushed to a hospital where his condition was stated to be precarious.
Two die: A 53-year-old man was killed by a speeding car near Kalma Chowk, Garden Town, on Sunday. The victim identified as Ishaq was crossing a road near Kalma Chowk when a rashly driven car hit and killed him.
In another incident, a man was killed by a van at Barkat Town, Shahdara. The victim was identified as Hafeez. The bodies have been removed to morgue.
Man dies: A 28-year-old man died in mysterious circumstances in the Nawab Town area on Sunday. The deceased identified as Naeem hailed from Vehari and worked in a private company’s hostel. It was reported he had consumed some poisonous substance, resulting in his death. Police have removed the body to morgue.
cars burnt: Four cars were damaged after a fire broke out in a car showroom at Johar Town on Sunday. The cause of the fire was stated to be a short-circuit. Firefighters extinguished it after hectic efforts. No casualty was reported.
