Dengue staff to be regularised: minister

LAHORE Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir has said that dengue staff performing duties for the last two years would be regularised on their positions. He has also directed the department to prepare working paper for the purpose.

According to a handout, he stated this while talking to a delegation of dengue staff of Punjab Dengue Control Programme here on Friday. The minister lauded the efforts of dengue staff in controlling the virus. He said tireless efforts of dengue staff and vigorous indoor and outdoor dengue surveillance controlled dengue. He said, "In 2011, we had sought technical assistance from Sri Lankan experts to overcome the dengue epidemic and now by the grace of Allah, our entomologists and public health experts had become so experienced that the Sri Lankan are asking us for help to control dengue in their country."

Kh Imram Nazir assured the delegation that problems of dengue staff would be solved on priority basis and they would soon hear good news in this regard. Ramazan bazaars: Expressing satisfaction over Ramazan bazaars arrangements, the Cabinet Committee for Ramazan Package on Friday lauded the performance of provincial ministers, public representatives, deputy commissioners and the officers concerned.At the last meeting of the Cabinet Committee that met daily under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Malik Nadeem Kamran at Civil Secretariat during Ramazan, it was stated that hard work and relentless efforts of deputy commissioners and other officers helped to ensure best arrangements at Ramazan bazaars.

Lifting ban on sale of white flour bags, the Cabinet Committee also allowed flour mills to supply flour in open market from Saturday (today). The provincial minister directed the deputy commissioners that sale of green flour bags available at shops be ensured at fixed price and stern action be taken in case of overcharging.

He said the chief minister always prioritised public service. He mentioned that high quality commodities were provided at concession rates at 319 Ramazan bazaars set up across the province during the holy month. Historic package of subsidised flour was given for providing relief to masses. Price control magistrates were deputed to keep check on prices.

The provincial minister said that in view of increase in sale ahead of Eidul Fitr, supply of commodities, including fruits and vegetables be enhanced to ensure that there is no shortage. He lauded the performance of deputy commissioners for best arrangements in Ramazan bazaars and directed them to continue work with the same commitment and spirit.

security: Jumatul Wida (the last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan) remained peaceful under tight security arrangements in the provincial capital. At least 8,000 police officers and officials were deployed at mosques and Imambargahs. The citizens were allowed entry to the mosques and Imambargahs only after thorough checking.

custody: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday handed over the custody of a nine-month-old minor to her mother after getting him recovered from the illegal custody of his father.

Shazia Bibi, a resident of Iqbal Town, had filed a habeas corpus petition before the court contending that her husband had detained her nine months old son Sufian Ali. She said that her husband Rehan Ali kicked her out from his house and did not allow her to take her son with her. She said that her son was in danger due to his tender age. She implored the court for the recovery of her son.

On her plea, the court appointed a bailiff who raided the house of Rehan and found the minor there. The court’s staffer produced the child before the judge from where he was handed over to her mother.
