Man arrested for fraud

National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore on Friday arrested an accused for alleged misappropriation of Rs67 million in Punjab Highway Department.

According to a NAB spokesman, accused Muhammad Amjad was arrested for allegedly misappropriating Rs67 million funds, allocated by Punjab Highway Department, in connivance with Land Accusation Collector (LAC) and others.

Punjab Highway Department allocated funds of Rs67 million (approx) as compensation to the affectees of Pattoki-Chuniya-Kanganpur Road.

According to the spokesman, in 2009, funds were placed under office of Land Accusation Collector, Punjab Highway Department, Lahore chiefly for acquisition of land for expansion of road and compensation payment to the affectees.

In 2012, he added, funds allocated were allegedly misappropriated in collusion with other co-accused i.e. then Girdawar, Zahoor Ahmed, Collector’s uncle Muhammad Sharif, Mian Rauf and Muhammad Ali, including Muhammad Amjad.

Furthermore, the spokesman said, Land Accusation Collector, Girdawar, Muhammad Sharif and Muhammad Ali have been arrested earlier and are under judicial custody of National Accountability Bureau whereas Muhammad Amjad was arrested on Friday and Accountability Court has granted his physical remand to National Accountability Bureau.
