LHC for making Miani Sahib safer place for visitors

The Lahore High Court Monday issued directions to make Miani Sahib Graveyard a safer place in all aspects for the visitors.

A division bench headed by Justice Muhammad Farrukh Irfan Khan also directed the chairman of Miani Sahib Graveyard Committee, Lahore deputy commissioner, to ensure that the graveyard is not an abode for the drug peddlers, addicts and criminals.

In a report filed before the court, the DC/chairman of the committee submitted that guards deployed at the graveyard are equipped with firearms and they are performing their duties diligently and efficiently.

As the guards have to monitor a vast area, it is expected that some of them will be deputed to perform mobile duty, the DC said.

DC Sameer Sayed appearing before the court submitted that another area of 31 kanal has been retrieved from the squatters.

It is also reported that work is under progress to comply with the directions of the court for the removal of all sorts of encroachments and to make the graveyard a safe place for the public. He added pathways are under construction while 67 electric poles have been erected with 227 lights to facilitate the public in general during their visit of the graveyards even at the evening time.

The court in its written order observed that no report has been filed by the Lahore Development Authority in compliance with the court orders. The court directed a law officer to convey order of the court dated February 16, 2017, to the director general of LDA to comply with the directions of the court. In case report is not filed prior to the next date of hearing, the DG will appear in person in the court on the next date of hearing June 14.

bail granted: Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court on Monday granted protective bail to Javed Gondal, the opposition leader and others of Mandi Bahauddin local government.

The court also directed the applicant to appear before the trial court within three days.

Gondal and others moved the LHC taking plea that the local government chairman got lodged a false case against them and police wanted to arrest them before they could approach the trial court. Applicants counsel alleged that they were victimised by the ruling party and had not committed any offence. They sought concession of protective bail to enable them to move court of original jurisdiction.
