LAHORE
A writ petition has been filed in the Lahore High Court seeking action against police personnel involved in manhandling of women and schoolchildren in the Bhati Gate area Thursday. Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) has filed the petition and sought an order for Inspector General of Police Punjab to take strict action against the cops for resorting to baton-charge on peaceful protesters.
The children of Government Islamia High School along with their mothers were holding a protest against a government’s decision about the school’s academic affairs on January 22 when personnel of Bhati Gate used force to disperse them. A 13-year-old child received serious injuries during the baton-charge by the police.
The petitioner stated that the police had adopted a policy of atrocity against the peaceful citizens. He also recalled manhandling of Pakistan Blind Association’s members by the police few months back in the city. The petitioner also asked the court to summon record of inquiries initiated against the cops for manhandling peaceful citizens.
