The government should withdraw increase in petrol prices as it will aggravate price hike, said labour union leaders here on Friday.
The government should also establish a National Commission for the Welfare of Children in accordance with ILO and UNO Conventions for abolishing child labour and ensure free and quality education to every child. These demands were raised in a meeting of trade Union representatives and workers at Bakhtiar Labour Hall under the aegis of All Pakistan Workers Confederation which was addressed by trade union leader Khurshid Ahmed, Rubeena Jamil, Akbar Ali Khan, Osama Tariq, Yousaf Baloch, Niaz Khan, Mahmood Butt, Khushi Muhammad Khokhar, Salah-ud-Din and others.
They said environment to the workforce at workplace should also be ensured against rising accidents and occupational diseases of workers engaged in mines, chemical, electricity, railway, engineering, construction, transport and textiles and other industrial units in accordance with ILO Convention No.81, 155 &187. The federal government should introduce special law for protection of domestic workers against exploitation in accordance with the Principle of ILO Recommendation, 2011 (No.201).
They also demanded the federal and provincial governments to allow continuous medical facilities to industrial and commercial workers after their retirement under the social security scheme and raise Old Age Pension from Rs5,000 to Rs15,000 under Old Age Benefits Employees Institution Act, 1974. They also demanded the federal and provincial governments to raise the monthly minimum wages, like the Members of the National Assembly of Pakistan in the forth coming budget. They also urged the government of Pakistan not to withdraw hike in prices of petrol, since it would further aggravate prices of essentials in the country. The working class also offered condolence over the brutal killings of Innocent citizens at Para Chinar and declared it as crime against mankind.
UVAS spring workshop: The Spring Festival 2017 of the University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) concluded with floral, departments’ decoration and drama competitions here on Friday. UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the concluding ceremony in the evening and distributed trophies among overall winners of the spring festival contests while Ms Beena Khawaja and Senior Tutor UVAS Prof Dr Kamran Ashraf and a large number of students were present. The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (IPS) won overall first position, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) got second and Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition stood third. Meanwhile a two-day workshop on “Skills Enhancement of Teaching Staff of Livestock Services & Training Centers/Institutes concluded at the UVAS on Friday. Prof Pasha chaired the concluding session of the training and distributed certificates among participants.
