LAHORE

The Lahore High Court on Monday dismissed on technical grounds a petition seeking protective bail for former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon facing corruption reference before an accountability court of Karachi.

Lawyer of Memon told a division bench that his client was in Dubai and wanted to appear before the accountability court. However, he said, his client might be arrested on his return to the country. The lawyer prayed to the court to grant protective bail to Memon so that he could appear before the trial court.

NAB Senior Special Prosecutor Rana Arif opposed the petition and said Memon did not specify the cases in his petition. He argued that the petitioner did not appear before the court, a mandatory provision to seek a protective bail.

The bench dismissed the petition and observed that the petitioner could approach Sindh High Court for the relief.
