Punjab Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani has said that Pakistani media should always remember that the national interest and integrity of the country are supreme.
While addressing a prize-distribution ceremony of annual sports day at Government College of Science, Wahdat Road, on Thursday, the minister said the media had an increasingly important role in projecting the positive side of Pakistan as it had multifarious dimensions of art, culture and history dating back to thousands of years.
He said the government would be requested to arrange a separate setup for hiring college teachers through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) to fill the backlog of 7,000 vacant posts of lecturers well in time.
Similarly, it has also been planned to maintain one to 30 ratio of teacher and students in a class in higher education institutions. He asked the teachers to keep themselves abreast of latest developments in their subjects.
The minister said the youth should use their educational experience for the betterment of society. He said all the higher education institutions had been declared drug free. He asked the teachers to create disgust for drugs in their students.
Later presiding over an informal meeting of college teachers, the minister said a departmental committee had been constituted to ponder the issues pertaining to Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association (PPLA) and reiterated his commitment that departmental issues would be treated on priority basis. The teachers would be provided with all the necessary facilities which they require, he added.
Raza Gillani said comprehensive teacher training programme was in the pipeline to educate the teachers about the latest educational concepts. “We want to bring our institutions on a par with the international institutions and the Punjab would soon be known by its high-quality institutions,” he added.
UET: A delegation of Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Thursday visited University of Engineering and Technology (UET) and had a meeting with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid.
During the meeting, both sides agreed upon the academia-industry linkages and a memorandum of understanding would be signed in this regard.
