LAHORE
The Lahore High Court chief justice on Tuesday dismissed for being not maintainable a petition seeking deployment of Rangers in the Punjab province.
Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah observed that it was government’s prerogative to decide whether the Rangers should be deployed in the province. A citizen, Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi, filed the petition pleading that the provincial government had failed to maintain law and order in the province as terrorist activities had become a routine matter. He prayed to the court to order deployment of Rangers in Lahore and other cities of Punjab.
