MOs to be given loans for clinics

LAHORE
ADVISER to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Kh. Salman Rafiq has said the women medical officers, who do not continue their professional career after marriage, can set up their private clinics for which the Punjab Health Foundation (PHF) will facilitate them.
He said this while chairing a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Punjab Health Foundation, according to a handout issued on Thursday. Besides, Secretary Health Jawad Rafiq Malik, MD PHF Izhar Anwar Sheikh, Additional Secretary I&C S&GAD M. Naeem Ghaus, Assistant Chief Planning Officer (Health) P&D Board Uzma Hafeez, Additional Secretary Population Welfare Madam Zareen, Prof. Eice Muhammad (Non-Official Member) and officers of Social Welfare and other departments concerned attended the meeting.
The meeting decided to enhance the ceiling of interest-free loan from Rs. 15 lakh to Rs.25 lakh for establishing a private clinic. It was proposed that private medical colleges should also be approached for establishing nursing schools for overcoming the shortage of nurses and the PHF would extend financial assistance to them for this purpose. Secretary Health directed that a letter be sent to the management of private medical colleges and a feasibility report should also be prepaid to evaluate the capacity of these colleges to produce qualified nurses.
Kh. Salman Rafiq observed that usually women medical officers gave up their profession after marriage which was a great loss to the nation. He directed that the PHF should persuade the women medical officers to establish their private clinics and special package be introduced for married women medical officers for establishing clinics so that they could serve their community. He said the South Punjab was facing severe shortage of WMOs. The secretary health said that proposal to provide stipend to the postgraduate nurses should also be considered. He said the basic objective of providing interest-free loan was to promote the health facilities in

the remote areas.
LGH: With a view to improving the clinical services in Neurosurgery Department of the Lahore General Hospital (LGH), a combined “Movement Disorder Clinic” is going to start on every Saturday from 11:00am to 01:00pm. All the cases with movement disorders, including Parkinson disease, Distonia, Chorea, essential tramers, will be examined at the Neurosurgery OPD on Saturday in room No.4.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute/Lahore General Hospital Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra informed the media that a Multi Disciplinary Team headed by Prof. of Neurosurgery Dr. Khalid Mehmood had been constituted for the treatment of movement disorder patients. The other members of the team include Neuro-physician Dr. Shahid Mukhtar and Physiotherapist Hafiz Ijaz.
Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra further said that earlier a special procedure of Deep Brain Stimulation was also introduced to the LGH for the treatment of Parkinson and other Neuro disorders and the new invention of Movement Disorder Clinic would further enhance facilities for the treatment of neurological disorders.
Deputation: The Punjab Health Department has granted deputation to 37 doctors working in different hospitals in the province for admission to various postgraduate training courses at Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Lahore with immediate effect. These doctors have been directed to report to the office of the Principal PGMI immediately.
According to a handout issued on Thursday, as per conditions mentioned in the notification issued by the Health Department, the doctors on deputation will not leave the PG training course incomplete failing which he/she will be liable to refund the entire amount spent on the training along with any penalty which may be imposed by the government. Moreover, the doctors on deputation will be required to serve the government for a period of three-year after the completion of postgraduate course.
During training he/she will not be allowed to enrol himself/herself in any other PG training course.
