Approves new system of provision of medicines to patients on their doorstep

LAHORE

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday said that work had been started speedily on reforms to improve the system of the hospitals for providing quality treatment facilities to the people.

The chief minister presided over a meeting, which lasted for four hours despite holiday to review in detail implementation of the decisions taken for provision of quality medical facilities to the people of the province.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that improvement of medical facilities in public sector hospitals was his mission. The mission of providing quality treatment facilities to the patients will be completed at all costs, he added. He said strict system of reward and punishment was necessary for ensuring provision of quality medical facilities in the hospitals. He said that doctors, nurses, paramedics and other staff would be encouraged on good performance and the Punjab government would launch performance award in order to improve healthcare facilities in the hospitals.

He directed to constitute a committee to devise mechanism of performance award, which will present its recommendations soon after giving a final shape to this programme.

According to a handout, Shahbaz Sharif said cash prizes and commendation certificates would be given to doctors, nurses, paramedics and other staff showing excellent performance. The committees will be constituted at district, divisional and provincial level to monitor the performance and in the light of their recommendations, those, showing good performance will be encouraged, he added.

Giving approval to implementation of new system of provision of medicines to the patients at their doorstep, the chief minister said the Punjab government was providing free medicines worth billions of rupees to the patients in government hospitals every year and for this purpose, medicines for Rs6 billion were being purchased during current year. He said a foolproof system of procurement, storage and supply of medicines was being introduced under which, medicines would be provided to the patients at their doorstep which would result in reducing the rush of patients in the hospitals. He said new system would result in elimination of embezzlement and theft of medicines.

The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to give a final shape and implement the new system of storage and supply of medicines at the earliest. He said purchase and supply of medicines was a great challenge, which should be coped with excellently. He said medical superintendents would be taken from private sector in tehsil and district headquarters hospitals. Initially, medical superintendents will be acquired from private sector for five district headquarters hospitals and three tehsil headquarters hospitals, he added.

The CM said that work had been started speedily on reforms to improve the system of the hospitals for providing quality treatment facilities to the people. He said the Punjab government was providing CT scan machines to DHQs of the whole province. Provision of CT scan machines to district headquarters hospitals is a revolutionary step of the Punjab government and 24 hours facility of CT scan will be available in these hospitals, he added.

He said that darkness would be removed forever from the country with the completion of energy projects. He said that under CPEC, investment of $36 billion was being made in energy projects.

According to a handout, the chief minister expressed these views while talking to a delegation of PML-N, which called on him, Sunday. He said power projects were being set up throughout the country, including Sindh, Balochistan, KP and Punjab. The chief minister said that on the one hand, the country had been put on the road to progress and prosperity while on the other hand, a conspiracy was being hatched against Pakistan by threatening lockdown of Islamabad. He said those threatening to lock down Islamabad were committing open enmity to Pakistan.
