Operation against illegal transport stands

Lahore Transport Company (LTC) launched a grand operation against the illegal public transport stands at Niazi Shaheed Chowk.

The operation met fierce resistance and demonstrations from the transport owners having illegal public transport stands. They blocked road in protest. However, the local administration held negotiations with them and restored traffic on the road. LTC Chief Executive Officer Khawaja Haider Latif said that the illegal stands of intercity wagons and buses under the ring road flyover had been there for many years. He said these illegal stands posed serious traffic problems and hurdles.

PhDs: Punjab University (PU) has awarded two PhDs to scholars. Ashhar-uz-Zaman, son of Zafar-uz-Zaman, has been awarded a PhD in chemistry after approval of his thesis “Synthesis of Fused Quinolines as Potential Pharmacologically Active Compounds” and Anwar Khan, s/o Munir Ahmed, in molecular biology after approval of his thesis “Expression Studies of Barley Chitinase Gene in Potato.”

E-vaccs: Punjab Health Department has updated E-vaccs, a smart phone application introduced by Expanded Programme of Immunisation (EPI) to monitor vaccinators’ attendance and performance.

According to a handout issued here on Friday, the spokesman informed that E-vaccs, an android-based application used to monitor vaccinators' attendance and performance through Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), has completed database of vaccinators’ performance and attendance. “After the introduction of technology-based monitoring, he said, the vaccinators’ attendance had improved to 97 percent from 50 percent in the last 16 months.
