The 13th death anniversary of noted politician of Pakistan Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan was observed on Tuesday.

Speakers at a seminar held in memory of Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan paid rich tribute to the noted political figure and admired his contribution to the democracy in the country.

Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, born in Khangarh, Muzzafargarh, in 1916 was a prominent politician who also headed Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD), a group comprising two arch rivals, PPP and PML-N, which had got united over one-point agenda of restoration of democracy in the era of Pervez Musharraf.

Besides, he also served as parliamentarian in different terms and also contested for the slot of president of Pakistan. He breathed his last on September 27, 2003.

LGH: The first meeting of the newly constituted Board of Management (BoM) of Postgraduate Medical Institute, Ameer-ud-Din Medical College and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) was held on Tuesday.

Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmad Shah, Federal Secretary (R) Salman Ghani, PGMI Principal Prof Dr Ghias-un-Nabi Tayyab, Punjab Overseas Pakistani Commission Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti, Javed Iqbal Bhatti, MS Dr Junaid Mirza, Prof (R) Dr Khalid Bashir, Dr Atta Ullah Awan, officers of Finance Department and other members attended the meeting.

According to a handout issued here on Tuesday, P&D former Chairman and Federal Secretary (R) Salman Ghani was elected chairman of the BoM unanimously by the board members. The meeting constituted different committees to manage and supervise the administrative and other matters of the medical college and the hospital. The BoM constituted executive committee, vigilance committee, procurement committee, human resource committee, audit and accounts committee. The board also constituted a special selection board for the recruitment of grade 16 to 19 staff for the college/hospital.

Addressing the meeting, SH&ME Secretary Najam Ahmad said that new reforms and initiatives were being introduced in the health sector to provide best health facilities to the people and to carry out the administrative matters of the hospital in a befitting manner. He said that during the current fiscal year, four teaching hospitals had been selected for revamp on which Rs 2 billion were being spent.

Moreover, Rs 1 billion have been allocated for IT system in the hospitals. The health secretary said that Rs 1 billion had been provided to LGH. He observed that efficient use of the funds was inevitable. If the hospital administration would achieve optimum utilisation of the funds, the government was ready to provide more resources, he added. He said more attention was required for outsourcing janitorial services and security arrangements in the hospitals. He said that 'one patient, one attendant' formula should be implemented for efficient management of accidental and emergency department and to maintain proper hygienic conditions in the hospital. Salman Ghani expressed his determination to utilise all his abilities for improvement in the medical college and hospital management.

He said that the main objective was to provide best health facilities to the patients for which all possible steps would be taken. He hoped that all the members of the BoM would discharge their duties with a passion to serve the ailing humanity and try to come up to the expectations of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
