Heavy rain causes traffic jams on city roads

Scattered heavy rain caused traffic jams in several city localities on Wednesday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for Thursday (today).

The rain which started at noon inundated several localities in southern Lahore include Johar Town, Muslim Town, Faisal Town, Wapda Town, Raiwind Road, Hunjarwal, Chung, Wahdat Colony, Garden Town and several other localities on Canal Bank Road. Following the rain, Canal Bank Road from Doctor’s Hospital to Thokar was jam packed and long lines of honking vehicles were witnessed on both sides. A large number of drivers trying to avoid traffic jam turned their vehicles inside Johar Town resulting in further traffic mess on inner roads, which were already full with rainwater. Met officials said seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan and adjoining areas. They said monsoon low pressure lies over Northwest Madhya Pradesh & Adjoining Rajasthan (India) due to which low pressure monsoon currents are penetrating eastern parts of the country. Met office predicted mainly hot and humid weather in most parts of the country while rain-thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Sh.Benazirabad, Sukkur, Zhob, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Lahore divisions and Kashmir.
