UVAS, FJMU sign two MoUs

LAHORE

University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore and Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU), Lahore, on Saturday signed two memoranda of understanding (MoUs) to improve nutritional status of the masses through research, educational activities and professional training of students in nutrition and dietetics.

UVAS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and FJMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam signed the MoUs. Under the first MoU, UVAS and FJMU agreed to share facilities and enhance opportunities for benefit of students and the masses, through developing mutual research and academic proposals, undertaking activities to develop centres of excellence in allied health domains especially human nutrition and initiating joint degree programmes. Both institutions will conduct joint research and development projects, exchange faculty/researchers, jointly organise lectures and symposia, international meetings, conferences and workshops.

Under the second MoU, the FJMU will facilitate nine-month internship of undergraduate students of doctor of nutrition and dietetics of UVAS at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and Shahdara Hospital, Lahore.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the MoUs would be beneficial for students and provide a platform for sharing experiences.

Prof Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam hoped that the MoUs would be a milestone in developing the health care system in Pakistan.

Faculty of Life Science Business Management Dean Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad, Faculty of Veterinary Science Dean Prof Dr Masood Rabbani and Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition Chairman Dr Muhammad Nasir were also present.

Meanwhile, UVAS Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition established a ‘Human Nutrition Clinic’ at the City Campus. Prof Dr Sardar Fakhar Imam along with Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha inaugurated the clinic at UVAS City Campus, Lahore. The clinic will provide services of nutritional assessment and screening, nutrition counselling for prevention and nutritional management of diseases especially obesity, diabetes, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders and kidney and liver diseases.
