Tom Cruise's 'Digger' originally had surprising title

With the film titled Digger, Tom Cruise's forthcoming movie didn't reveal much from the title.

Of course, the title comes from the movie's titular character, Digger Rockwell, a potbellied oil baron with a Texas accent.

But that wasn't the original title of the upcoming film. Instead, director Alejandro G. Iñárritu said the name was intended to be Blah, Blah, Blah.

He explained to IndieWire, “It was a reference to this incredible, terrible, terrifying weapon that we as humans have, which is the tongue,” Iñárritu said. “It can change your perception of the reality that your body is experiencing. It can make you believe in something that you don’t see.”

Regarding the movie itself, Iñárritu said he wrote it years ago and intended the movie as a satire.

However, years later, his exaggerated fictional world increasingly looked similar to the real one.

“We are living in a satire,” he noted, adding, "The more we stretched our imagination, reality was chasing and catching us."

"It was crazy. Now I think the tone of the film feels almost realistic because if you turn on the TV, this is what is going on," the director added.

"The people in power are trying to convince all of us that everything is fine, and people want to buy that, and that’s the power of someone like Digger," he said.

Digger opens in cinemas in Oct. 2.
