New Found Glory announces death of guitarist Chad Gilbert

New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert has died at age 45, the band announced on social media.

A statement shared by the band and his wife, Lisa Cimorelli, declares that Gilbert passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, surrounded by family.

"He left this world surrounded by friends and family and took his final breaths with his wife and mother by his side, just as he wished," the statement read. "We are devastated and shocked by how quickly he left us, yet so grateful for how peacefully and smoothly he went."

The band noted that while Gilbert was a celebrated musician, he considered being a husband and father his greatest accomplishment. He is survived by his wife, daughter Lily, his mother, and his brother.

New Found Glory credited Gilbert's guitar playing, songwriting, and creative energy with shaping the band over nearly three decades together.

"Chad challenged all of us to grow as musicians, performers, and human beings," the statement continued, adding that his influence and spirit will remain part of the band moving forward.

Gilbert had been battling cancer for several years. He was diagnosed with a rare adrenal gland cancer in December 2021, which later spread to his spine, lungs, and back.

Earlier this year, he underwent brain surgery to remove three tumours, which he shared at the time had been successful. Just last month, he revealed on Instagram that he'd been hospitalised after fluid buildup in his lungs required treatment.

Gilbert was previously married to Paramore's Hayley Williams from 2016 to 2017, and to musician Sherri DuPree in an earlier marriage that ended in 2007.

New Found Glory also includes singer Jordan Pundik, bassist Ian Grushka, and drummer Cyrus Bolooki.
