Kerry-Lynne Findlay refuses to resign after BC Conservative MLAs ask her to step down

British Columbia Conservative Leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay is refusing to step down after at least two MLAs asked her to resign during an emergency caucus meeting.

According to CTV News, citing sources, the contentious meeting was held in downtown Vancouver Wednesday night and ended around 11:30 PM, with Findlay refusing to resign.

Findlay said on Thursday that she was “not going anywhere.”

Speaking at the Union of B.C. Municipalities Convention, she said: “27,000 party members voted for me as a leader who will collaborate and welcome anyone from any background or political alliances.”

Nine MLAs have left the Conservative caucus since August, with defectors raising concerns about Findlay’s leadership and the party’s direction.

Conservative MLA Claire Rattee also published an essay Wednesday saying she would not “tolerate” Findlay’s leadership unless it changed, describing the Opposition as “deeply divided.”

“Any who have left our party are welcome to have a conversation about coming back, but let’s understand that it has to happen now,” Findlay said.

Meanwhile, Premier David Eby said the NDP is “election-ready” and confirmed he has hired a campaign manager, although he has not announced plans for a snap election.

Findlay is also contesting an upcoming byelection in Abbotsford-Mission.
