Trump grant cuts hit health, disaster relief and education across US, analysis finds
Some of the administration’s funding cuts have faced legal challenges, with courts ruling against the government in certain cases
US President Donald Trump’s administration has cut, frozen or delayed up to $177 billion in federal grants across all 50 states and Washington, DC, according to a new analysis.
The States United Democracy Center and Grant Witness said Wednesday that health, nutrition, environmental programmes and disaster relief accounted for the largest share of disrupted funding.
Their Lost Funds tracker found California, Texas, New York, Illinois and North Carolina had the highest amounts of affected grant money.
“By bringing thousands of funding disruptions from the Trump administration together in a publicly accessible, verified database, Lost Funds puts the magnitude of their impact on full display,” Grant Witness co-founder Scott Delaney said in a statement.
The groups said the $177 billion represents nearly 10 percent of federal discretionary spending.
Affected programmes include maternal health initiatives in Michigan, education research in Mississippi and assistance for minority farmers in Iowa, according to the analysis.

The tracker uses federal spending information from USASpending.gov and will be regularly updated as funding decisions and related lawsuits develop.
