The Obama family devastated after their adorable Sunny died on Tuesday
Former US President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are mourning the death of their beloved dog, Sunny who has died at the age of 13.
The family previously owned Portuguese Water Dogs in the White House; Sunny was joined to the family during Obama’s presidential term in 2013. Sunny met many distinguished visitors while Obama was president. Earlier, their dog Bo joined the family in 2009 as a gift for daughters Sasha and Malia to help them settle into the White House.
On social platform X, Obama wrote, “ We got Sunny at the start of our second term in the White House, and all of us – including our first dog, Bo – immediately fell in love. We also had trouble keeping up with her, for Sunny was a force of nature. Athletic and full of boundless energy, she leapt over the hedges on the South Lawn like they weren’t even there, chasing squirrels, birds and anything else that moved….”
Sunny was a prominent figure at White House events, meeting children at Christmas parties and diplomatic representatives during state visits. In 2015, Sunny and Bo met Pope Francis in the Blue Room at the presidential residence. In addition, former chief White House photographer Pete Souza expressed his fond memories of working with Sunny describing her as a cooperative participant who enjoyed being petted by both a President and a Pope.
Obama missed her terribly and imagined she was with her brother now, hoping she was fine there.
