Anthropic back in the Trump’s administration’s good books, US Commerce Secretary says
The White House has patched ties with Anthropic after months of strategic rivalries
On Wednesday, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said AI giant Anthropic is back in favor with the Trump administration after recent tensions-suggesting that the relationship between the two sides has improved.
Lutnick’s comment was made after a US judge supported Anthropic in its legal battle with the American military over AI safety for defense applications.
Earlier, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had blocked Anthropic from receiving certain military contracts because the company refused to allow the US to use its Claude AI models for mass surveillance or target identification.

The Anthropic and Commerce Department did not respond to this matter. According to Reuters, Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown debuted on stage at a tech-focused G20 event in North Carolina, underlining the significance of data centers at the gathering, pressuring the government officials to grant permits to build them in their countries.
Brown was crucial in reconciling the relationship, holding multiple conversations with Lutnick and National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross.
The federal judge in August overturned the Pentagon's backlist of Anthropic as a supply-chain risk ruling that the government’s actions infringed upon Anthropic’s constitutional rights.
