Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay will reportedly miss upcoming matches after Napoli confirmed he needs a minor procedure to treat “a mild benign arrhythmia”.

The 29-year-old was substituted after 56 minutes of Sunday’s Series A fight by Como and will have corrective statement in the coming days.

According to reports, Napoli anticipated his comeback after the international break in early October while McTominay himself posted on Instagram, captioned: “ See you soon Napoli. I won’t be long.”

This means he is at risk of failing Sebastien Pocognoli’s first four games as Scotland head coach against Slovenia, North Macedonia and Switzerland in the Nations League.

NHS explains that arrhythmia is when the heart beats too quickly or the heartbeat is not steady, as reported by the BBC.

Napoli says McTominay will undergo cardiac ablation, a procedure that the British Heart Foundation explains external as using heat or cold energy to create tiny scars in the heart and faulty signals to restore cardioversion.
