Disney eyes wider Super Bowl reach by adding game to Disney+

The Super Bowl is often billed as one of the biggest events in sports, drawing millions to the television.

ESPN is broadcasting Super Bowl LXI, and since it falls under Disney, the company decided to add another layer of viewership: Disney+.

So, under the company's new sports strategy, Super Bowl LXI can be accessed on ESPN, ABC, and Disney+.

Around 55 countries with Disney+ subscribers can watch the highly anticipated NFL final.

That said, not every Disney+ subscriber can watch the Super Bowl. For now, it's limited to select markets.

But before the finale, ESPN will test the new format by putting Disney+ in a position to stream two Monday Night Football games.

The first match will consist of Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles, set to take place on October 26.

The other match has not been announced yet.

Reasons behind the decision vary. According to The Athletic, adding the Super Bowl to Disney+ may be driven by Disney's plan to encourage users who don't necessarily watch sports to watch sports content that usually airs on ESPN.

Super Bowl LXI is set to take place on Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
