Royal expert Richard Palmer tells i paper: “Even worse, the chances of reconciliation with the Prince and Princess of Wales look as far away as ever. The two brothers and their wives are still not thought to be speaking and William has moved on, according to some inside his circle.”

He adds: “When they reflect upon the rift, perhaps all sides might acknowledge privately that they could have done things differently, but there is little forgiveness inside the Royal Household for what is generally regarded as Harry and Meghan’s public criticism and betrayal of the institution.”

“Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s disgrace and defenestration have given the Sussexes time to organise a reset, but they have also reinforced the belief inside the family, and the wider household, that it was right for Queen Elizabeth to tell them that their plan to mix undertaking official duties on behalf of the monarch while making money trading off their royal connections would not be acceptable,” notes the expert.

“They have done it their own way instead, and despite predictions to the contrary and a few bumps in the road – a rapid turnover of staff, the loss of lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, and redundancies at their charitable operation – Harry and Meghan, 44, are living comfortably in their $14.65m, nine-bedroom home in the wealthy Californian enclave of Montecito, by all accounts,” he states.
