No relief from overcharging in makeshift markets

No relief in excessive overcharging in the weekly makeshift markets of the city despite the rates were slightly down this week as compared to the last.

The quality of perishable item sold there was very pathetic as majority was rotten or rainwater affected. There was no check from any authority on overcharging and sale of substandard items there.

Since after Ramazan no ‘surprise visit’ was made by ministers, provincial secretaries, or any other high-ups as a month ago government's only focus was on pricing and ensuring availability of the perishable. However, after Ramazan no one bothered to look into the miseries of the public due to artificial price-hike and sale of substandard items.

The price of potato soft skin was gained by Rs4 per kg, fixed at Rs39 to 42 per kg, sugar-free at Rs23 to 26 per kg, and stored at Rs17 to 19 per kg, while stored sold at Rs42 per kg. Onion price was gained by Rs2 per kg, fixed at Rs18 to 20 per kg, rainwater damaged was sold at Rs20 per kg.

The price of tomato was fixed at Rs63 to 68 per kg, sold at Rs70 per kg till half day while in the evening rotten was sold at Rs80 per kg. Garlic local was reduced by Rs7 per kg, fixed at Rs202 to 215 per kg, garlic China by Rs20 per kg, fixed at Rs236 to 250 per kg, both sold at Rs260 per kg. Ginger Chinese was increased by Re one per kg fixed at Rs65 to 71 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg. The price of brinjal was declined by Rs24 per kg, fixed at Rs31 to 41 per kg, sold at Rs40 per kg. Cucumber local was reduced by Rs6 per kg, fixed at Rs41 to 44 per kg, sold at Rs50 per kg. Bitter gourd price also raised by Rs25 per kg, fixed at Rs57 to 60 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg.

Spinach price was reduced by Rs2 per kg, at Rs25 to 28 per kg, rainwater damaged was sold at Rs30 per kg. Lemon local was declined by Rs21 per kg, fixed at Rs64 to 69 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg. Zucchini local was fixed at Rs68 to 72 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg.

The price of pumpkin was declined by Rs21 per kg, fixed at Rs42 to 45 per kg, sold there at Rs50 per kg. Luffa price was reduced by Rs23 per kg, fixed at Rs39 to 42 per kg, sold at Rs45 per kg. Ladyfinger price also came down by Rs17 per kg, fixed at Rs72 to 78 per kg sold at Rs80 per kg. Arum was fixed at Rs54 to 58 per kg, sold at Rs60 per kg. Green chilli price local gained by Rs13 per kg, fixed at Rs63 to 68 per sold at Rs80 per kg.

Capsicum was fixed at Rs54 to 58 per kg, rotten was sold at Rs60 per kg. Coriander was gained by Rs80 per kg, fixed at Rs140 per kg, sold at Rs400 per kg. The price of different variety of apples was fixed at Rs60 to 122 per kg, while sold at Rs100 to 130 per kg. The price of banana was fixed at Rs56 to 60 per dozen, lower quality was sold at Rs80 per dozen. Guava price was fixed at Rs42 to 45 per kg, sold at Rs60 to 100 per kg.

Peach A-category was fixed at Rs120 to 130 per kg, B-category at Rs74 to 80 per kg, mix was sold at Rs100 to 130 per kg. The price of different variety of mangoes was fixed at Rs31 to 100 per kg while sold at Rs60 to 100 per kg. Apricot white was fixed Rs106 to 155 per kg, mixed sold at Rs120 to 200 per kg. Grapes sundarkhani was fixed at Rs164 to 175 per kg, sold at Rs200 per kg, grapes black at Rs125 to 135 per kg, not sold. Pears was fixed at Rs65 to 70 per kg, sold at Rs80 per kg.
