Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s baseball loyalties were thrown into the spotlight this weekend as the Los Angeles Dodgers edged out the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 to claim the World Series crown.
The Duchess of Sussex shared the excitement on Instagram, posting footage of herself planting a celebratory kiss on Harry while cheering alongside her friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.
The Duke, meanwhile, kept a low profile, remaining seated in their home cinema as Meghan and Zajfen basked in the Dodgers’ victory.
She later gushed on Instagram Stories, “Best game ever!!! Sorry H your team didn’t win but mine diiiiiiiiid. dodgers I LOVE YOU!!!!”
The couple had been spotted courtside at Game 4 at Dodger Stadium earlier in the week, both donning blue Dodgers caps.
MLB captured their appearance on X, highlighting their support for Meghan’s hometown team though Harry’s quiet demeanor hinted his loyalties may have been elsewhere.
Harry’s support for Los Angeles, rather than Toronto, drew a few raised eyebrows given Canada’s status as a Commonwealth nation and the couple’s royal connections.
The Duchess, meanwhile, straddles both worlds born and raised in Los Angeles, she spent years in Toronto filming Suits, giving her a unique link to both World Series cities.
Her Dodgers fandom isn’t just hometown loyalty. She shares distant ancestry with Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts, a connection she highlighted on Instagram by celebrating his Golden Glove award.
Betts confirmed the familial tie in 2018, telling the Boston Globe, “That's not something you expect to hear, but it's interesting.
I know from family stories that our relatives were from Virginia and settled in Alabama. There were Betts all over that area.”
