Artificial intelligence is taking a center stage as British TV channel, Channel 4, has unveiled the AI presenter for its current affairs series.
According to the UK channel's announcement, its long-running current affairs series Dispatcherslatest episode will be now presented by an AI-generated host to raise questions about originality and trust in the digital age.
The privately-funded channel claimed that this is the first time the stunt was used for British TV.
Channel 4 head of news and current affairs Louisa Compton said in a statement, “The use of an AI presenter is not something we will be making a habit of at Channel 4.”
"But this stunt does serve as a useful reminder of just how disruptive AI has the potential to be -- and how easy it is to hoodwink audiences with content they have no way of verifying,” Louisa added.
The latest documentary episode titled Will AI Take My Job sheds light on shifting patterns in workplaces across various industries.
The episode also highlights the increasing role of AI in disrupting the workforce as around three quarters of UK employers adopted AI by replacing human employees.
In 2018, Xinhua, China’s state news agency rolled out an AI news anchor. Recently, AI also faced backlash from Hollywood as AI-generated actress Tilly Norwood made its first-ever debut.
