Trump is authorizing farmers and ranchers to directly process their own food
President Donald Trump announced today that he plans to make it easier for farmers and ranchers to process their own meat in the administration’s latest bid to lower beef prices ahead of the US midterm elections in November.
On Friday, Trump posted on social media that he would instruct counsel to draft documents in order to break up the strong monopoly among meat processors.
At present, it remains unclear whether Trump has the authority to make changes and the practical result of any official command is yet to be seen.

The Trump administration moved last week to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule citing obsolete prohibitions that have kept tens of millions of forested acres ineligible for treatments that improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk to our communities.
Nonetheless, recent comments come after the president's interview with conservative commentator Glenn Beck during which the host pleaded with Trump to look at the meat processing cartel and proposed deregulating regulations so ranchers can slaughter their own cattle.
