China flaunts new “Hypersonic missiles” at V-day parade

The hypersonic missile formations took the stage at China’s Victory-Day military parade 2025 to mark the 80th anniversary of the “Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World’s Anti-Fascist War”.

Chinese military has showcased new advanced weapons and unveiled a new hypersonic cruise missile, claiming the superfast power weapon offers “powerful penetration” and strike capabilities.

The newest Chinese missile was introduced in China’s military parade held in Bejing on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

The military parade introduced a number of new advance weapons, including anti-ballistic missile defense systems and nuclear missiles capable of reaching targets worldwide.

China also claims that the "new hypersonic missile" will cover the most critical strikes as well.

According to Global Times, China’s latest military deployment follows the inaugural deployment of the U.S. Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) in the western pacific during a July war game.

The LRHW is scheduled to field its first operational unit by the end of this month September 2025.

A formation of three types of cruise missiles was paraded through Tiananmen Square in Beijing on September 3, 2025, featuring the CJ-20A, YJ-18C and CJ-1000 which were operated separately by branch responsible for land-based missiles such as the air force, the navy and the rocket force.

Among them, the Hypersonic missile CJ-1000 is capable of conducting long-range precision strikes as reported by Xinhua News Agency.

China Central Television (CCTV) reported that the new hypersonic projectile features “powerful penetration” and “instant-launch” capabilities.

Moreover, Chinese military expert Mr. Shao Yongling informs that the CJ-1000 is an upgraded version of the CJ-100 which was revealed in 2019.

Given its high-speed and maneuverability, the CJ-1000 could be deployed to strike heavily defended and time-sensitive high-value targets, informs experts.

Time-sensitive targets are defined as fleeting targets requiring an immediate response including mobile command and controlled vehicles and mobile rocket launchers.

YJ-21, DF-17 and DF-26D Missiles:

The three types of hypersonic missiles YJ-21, DF-17 and DF-26D were also reviewed at the V-day military parade.

These missiles possess qualities like fast-flight speed, strong defense penetrating capability and high accuracy, making them new killer weapons with all-weather combat capability.

Moreover, the Chinese hypersonic projectiles have different roles with strong defense penetrating capabilities, making them vanguards, leading in the forefront to break the so-called “island chains” and striking aircraft carriers.

Why it matters?

China is the major country among “global nuclear power” industry, possessing the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal behind Russia and the U.S.

During the last September, China conducted the first test launch of an unarmed but nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) since the 1980s during which the missiles reach the South Pacific.

"The official debut of air-launched strategic missile means that China has become one of the few countries in the world with a nuclear triad,” told the Chinese military expert Zhang Junshe.

The Chinese missile and nuclear expert Yang Chengjun also expressed on military parade, "The appearance of these strategic weapons is of great significance. First, it tells the Chinese people not to forget the history. Second, it reminds people not to ignore the real threats. The security situation China is facing is still complex and severe.”

Moreover, fore-sighting the new threats, the Trump administration aims to deploy a $175 billion “Golden Dome” defense system by 2029 capable of intercepting missiles approaching the U.S. homeland, reports Newsweek.

Additionally, major military powers, including China, Russia and U.S. are racing to develop hypersonic technology weapons which are capable of flying at over 5 times the speed of sound and maneuvering during flight, making them difficult to intercept.
