In a significant step to foster its artificial intelligence capabilities, Meta has announced a licensing partnership with the AI image and video generation service “Midjourney.”
Midjourney utilises generative artificial intelligence to generate images from natural language descriptions, also known as prompts. It works similarly to the models of OpenAI’s DALL-E and Stability AI’s Stable Diffusion.
The model is hosted by the San Francisco-based independent research lab Midjourney, Inc.
Meta’s Chief AI Officer announced this collaboration on his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account stating, “Today we’re proud to announce a partnership with midjourney, to license their aesthetic technology for our future models and products, bringing beauty to billions.”
He highlights the strategic importance of the collaboration, saying, “This technical collaboration between our research teams is part of our effort to team up with the best companies in the industry whose work and expertise complements our own.”
Wang also commended Midjourney’s highly practical and advanced aesthetic achievements, calling them “We are incredibly impressed by Midjourney. They have accomplished true feats of technical and aesthetic excellence, and we are thrilled to be working more closely with them.”
The collaboration helps Meta to lead in the highly competitive AI environment alongside leading rivals such as OpenAI’s Sora and Google’s VEO.
By integrating Midjourney’s advanced V7 image model and new VI video generator, Meta significantly enhances the quality and creativity of its AI features.
