LAHORE:A ceremony was held at the Russian Centre for Science, Education, and Culture here to mark the 226th birth anniversary of the great poet, novelist, and philosopher, Alexander Pushkin — the architect of modern Russian literature.
The event was jointly organised by the Russian Centre and the Association of Pakistani Graduates from Russia and CIS (APGR). The ceremony was presided over by Dr Shahid Hassan, Ambassador of Russian Science and Education and Chairman of the Russian Centre.
Prominent attendees included Co-Chairman of the Russian Centre and President of APGR, Prof Dr Ashraf Nizami; President of the Pak-Russia Friendship Forum, Dr Iftikhar Hussain Bukhari; senior journalist Khalid Farooqi; Saif-ur-Rehman Khan; Khalid Sharif; Imtiaz-ul-Haq; Comrade M Asif and others.
On this occasion, Dr Shahid Hassan shed light on the life and achievements of the great Russian poet, writer, and intellectual Alexander Pushkin, and paid rich tribute to his literary, social, and national services.
Speakers stated that through his poetry, Pushkin awakened the masses during the autocratic era of Tsarist Russia and devoted his entire life to this struggle. Though lived only 38 years, he left behind a rich literary legacy.
