Heat wave to persist

LAHORE:Heat wave continued to prevail in the City here on Wednesday while Met office warned that severe heat wave was likely to continue on Thursday (today).

Met officials said day temperatures were likely to remain 05 to 07°C above normal in upper half (central & upper Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan), while 04 to 06°C above normal in southern half (upper and central Sindh, southern Punjab and parts of Balochistan) on 12th June.

They advised general public to avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the day time between (11am to 4pm) and stay hydrated. Met officials said continental air was prevailing over most parts of the country. A high pressure in upper atmosphere was prevailing over the country and likely to persist. A shallow westerly trough was likely to approach upper parts. They predicted mainly hot and dry weather was expected in most parts of the country while very hot in plain areas. Dust raising/gusty winds were likely in plain areas while partly cloudy weather with isolated rain-wind/thunderstorm was likely in upper KP, Kashmir and GB. Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Bhakkar and Jacobabad where mercury reached 49°C, while in Lahore, it was 43°C.
