Akshay Kumar has come out in defense of Paresh Rawal amid ongoing criticism over the veteran actor’s exit from Hera Pheri 3.
The Bollywood star, who has garnered recognition for his versatile performances across numerous projects, revealed that Rawal is currently dealing with a “very serious” legal issue.
Speaking at the launch of his upcoming comedy-drama, Housefull 5, the Khel Khel Mein actor urged the audience and media to show respect toward his long-time co-star.
Responding to a question about the controversy, Akshay said, “First of all, I would like to tell you that using this kind of word for one of my co-stars, like a foolish word or something, I would not appreciate it. I would say that’s not right. I’ve worked with him for the last 32 years. We are good friends. He’s a great actor. I really admire him. Whatever it is, I don’t think so this is a place where I’m going to talk about it. Whatever has to happen, it’s a very serious matter. It is matter that is going to be heard by the court. So. I don’t think I’m going to speak about it here.”
This comes on the heels of the Bhagam Bhag actor announcing his withdrawal from the franchise on his X handle, ahead of filming the sequel to the 2000 film.
It is pertinent to mention that the production house, Cape of Good Films, has reportedly issued a legal notice to Rawal, 69, seeking ₹25 crore in damages.
Housefull 5, starring Akshay, 57, alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Sanjay Dutt, Kriti Sanon, and others, is slated for release on June 6, 2025.
