LAHORE:The Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games are set to commence across all districts of Punjab from June 1 to 5, as confirmed by DG Sports Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry in an official meeting at the National Hockey Stadium on Monday.
The trials are in progress across all tehsils of the province until May 31, providing athletes with an opportunity to qualify for the provincial-level games. The division-level competitions will take place in the provincial capital from June 12 to 18.
Director Admin Dr M Kaleem, Director Sports Rana Nadeem Anjum, DSO Lahore Tanveer Shah, Deputy Director Yasmeen Akhtar and Zarina Waqar attended the meeting in person while all divisional and district sports officers of the province participated in the meeting through video link.
"Several talented athletes will emerge through this platform," emphasised Khizar Afzaal highlighting the importance of the games in sports development.
Additionally, the performance of all sports officers will be monitored closely during the tournament to ensure quality execution across districts. “With Punjab’s athletic infrastructure advancing, the Summer Games aim to nurture local talent, setting the stage for future national and international success.”
Meanwhile, the kabaddi, badminton, hockey and volleyball trials of Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games got underway in all the tehsils of the province on Monday under the auspices of Punjab Sports Department.
The kabaddi trials were held at Housing Schemes ground in which more than 70 kabaddi players from tehsil Raiwind and Model Town participated. The successful players emerged from tehsil level trials will participate in district level Chief Minister Punjab Summer Games.
The trials of female badminton players will be conducted at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on May 27 (today) while the trials of male badminton players will be organised at the same venue on May 28 (tomorrow).
The volleyball players will appear in CM Summer Games trials on May 27 (today) at the same venue while the trials of male and female hockey players will be conducted at the National Hockey Stadium Pitch-2 on May 29 and 30.
