LAHORE:The district administration has announced establishing five temporary cattle market in the provincial metropolis. As per DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, makeshift cattle markets will be established at five locations and will start operation from 28 May until Eid.
He said power, water, and security arrangements will be ensured for public convenience. Deputy commissioner said these markets are being established by collaborating with multiple departments and the administration was committed to providing top-notch facilities, ensuring safety, and maintaining cleanliness, making the religious observance hassle-free for Lahore’s residents. The cattle markets will be set up at Wagah Sports Complex, Nishtar LDA City, Ravi Moza Nain Sukh, Burki Road, and Raiwind, with the permanent market at Shahpur Kanjran also remaining fully functional. The Punjab Cattle Market Management Company has been tasked with providing essential amenities, including tents, fodder, toilets, electricity, generators, and clean drinking water. To enhance convenience, mobile ATMs, complaint cells, and information desks will be available at all markets. The Frontier Works Organisation has completed the construction of these markets, while the Punjab Cattle Market Management Company will oversee their management.
Security and traffic arrangements have been prioritised to ensure a safe and orderly experience. Punjab Police will maintain peace and security within the markets, while traffic wardens will manage smooth traffic flow around the sites.
The LWMC has been directed to clear debris from the Saggian site and ensure regular cleaning of all markets. The MCL is actively cracking down on illegal cattle markets and encroachments, with an ongoing operation to enforce compliance. Residents are encouraged to report any unauthorised markets to the DC’s Control Room at 03070002345 or via social media platforms. During a key meeting chaired by DC Syed Musa Raza, attended by the additional deputy commissioner general, all assistant commissioners, and representatives from Punjab police, traffic police, LWMC, Wasa, and the Punjab Cattle Market Management Company, detailed reviews of the arrangements were conducted.
The administration’s coordinated efforts aim to uphold public safety and convenience, ensuring that residents can fulfill their religious obligations with ease. Additionally, veterinary camps will be set up in collaboration with the livestock department to ensure animal health. The health department will also set up medical camps and provide ambulance services.
For security, CCTV cameras will be installed at the markets, while parking areas and animal weighing points will also be arranged.
