Bid to sell infant foiled; three arrested

LAHORE : Gulberg police thwarted an attempt to sell a five-month-old infant for Rs600,000, arresting three suspects, including a couple involved in the illegal trade.

According to a police spokesperson, the main accused, Ravi, had initially purchased the baby from her biological parents for Rs300,000. He then collaborated with co-accused Gulzaib and Nirmal to resell the child at double the price. The suspects were apprehended during the attempted sale, with police recovering two mobile phones and the vehicle used in the crime.

"The infant has been safely recovered and handed over to the Child Protection Bureau," confirmed a police official. The child is currently receiving medical care and while authorities trace her biological parents.

Cases have been registered against all three arrested individuals under human trafficking and child protection laws.

Police revealed they are also pursuing legal action against the infant's biological parents who initially sold their child.

Woman injured during robbery dies

A 62-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained during a violent robbery attempt in Zaman Park.

Salma was returning home with her son Moin, a dispenser at Governor's House, when two motorcycle-riders targeted them. According to police reports, the assailants snatched Salma's purse causing her to fall and sustain severe head injuries. She was rushed to the hospital but could not survive.

33 drug dealers arrested

In an anti-narcotics operation, Punjab Police conducted 205 raids across the province, arresting 133 drug dealers, a police spokesperson confirmed.

The operation led to the recovery of 59kg charas, 12kg heroin, 2kg ice, 1,466 litre alcohol, and other narcotics.

Man commits suicide

A 35-year-old man allegedly took his own life due to depression stemming from childlessness in the North Cantonment area. The incident occurred in Pir Nasir Colony, where resident Umar Hayat reportedly shot himself while his wife was preparing breakfast downstairs. Family members rushed to the room upon hearing the gunshot but found him dead.
