Workshop on ‘Global citizenship in education’ starts

LAHORE:An international workshop on 'Global Citizenship in Education and Curriculum Development and Integration' jointly organised by the School Education Department (SED) and Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA) commenced here on Monday.

During the opening session on the first day, CEO ECTAA Dr Shehanshah Faisal Azeem and Parliamentary Secretary for Education Nosheen Adnan while highlighting the objectives of the workshop, termed it a significant milestone for Punjab’s education system and a practical step toward mutual collaboration.

Dr Faisal Azeem stated that the Schools Department was committed to bringing curriculum development, professional teacher training, and educational assessments onto a unified platform based on 21st-century skills and research-driven pedagogical practices.

Nosheen Adnan stated that, in line with the progressive and inclusive educational vision of the Chief Minister Punjab, necessary capacities are being built among teachers and institutions to promote peace, sustainability, and shared global responsibility.

On this occasion, Jiyoung Min Om, Deputy Head of the Institute for Global Citizenship Education, appreciated Punjab’s dedication to advancing global citizenship education. On the first day, internationally acclaimed experts, including Prof Esther Care, Lia Espallardo, Prof Kevin Kester, and others conducted training sessions on various topics. A key focus was the strategic integration of global citizenship education into the national curriculum.

The workshop will also feature sessions on modern teaching methodologies, aimed at empowering teachers to foster global awareness, critical thinking, and social responsibility among students.
