Over 75,000 cops perform security duties

LAHORE:Punjab Police made elaborate security arrangements on Friday at mosques and Imambargahs.

Following the directives of Inspector General Police (IGP), Punjab, the police provided security to worshippers at more than 36,500 mosques, 2,179 Imambargahs, and 444 minority places of worship across the province, including Lahore. According to Police spokesperson, more than 75,000 cops and community volunteers were deployed for the security of mosques, Imambargahs, and religious places. At Lahore, more than 5,000 officers, officials, and volunteers performed security duty at mosques, Imambargahs, and markets. More than 200 walk-through gates and more than 12,000 metal detectors were used for checking at sensitive mosques and Imambargahs across the province. In a statement, the IGP directed RPOs and DPOs to review security arrangements themselves and be in touch with mosque administrators and members of peace committees.

Meanwhile, DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran Friday reviewed security arrangements at the time of Sehri and Fajr prayer on Friday. In a statement, the DIG stated that security during Ramazan is top priority for police and all available resources are being used in this regard.

He inspected security arrangements at mosques in Mustafaabad, The Mall, and Cantt areas, and said mosques have been categorized into A+, A, B, and C categories, and the special security plan for all 5,059 mosques across the city is being fully implemented.

Meanwhile, the DIG (Operations) listened to public grievances at Jamia Masjid Tajalli Kaaba, Shadman, and assured residents of solutions to their issues at an open court. Divisional SPs, SDPOs, and 83 SHOs also conducted similar open courts.
