LAHORE:The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Punjab, Tuesday reviewed crime control situation of Gujranwala region in a meeting at the Central Police Office.
The meeting discussed crime control, law and order situation, and security issues of the Gujranwala region. The RPO, CPO Gujranwala, and relevant DPOs attended the huddle via a video link.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the region’s performance in arresting wanted criminals and recovery rates, the IGP directed officers to expedite preventive measures in murder cases linked to old enmities and prioritise the recovery of missing women and children.
He also urged swift resolution of sexual assault cases. Under the Anti-Rape Act, the IGP instructed that only trained officers from the Special Sexual Offenders Investigation Unit (SSOIU) should handle such cases instead of regular police personnel. Additionally, he ordered the registration and surveillance of convicted sex offenders upon their release. He emphasised ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and functionality of Special Initiative Police Stations. The IGP lauded the performance of the DPO Narowal for his outstanding performance in various areas.
Family of martyred cop provided house
Punjab Police provided a house worth Rs13.5 million to the family of martyred Constable M Bilal, who was killed in the line of duty. According to spokesperson, the house was purchased in Zafar Colony, Muridke as per the family's preference. Constable Bilal was martyred in 2024 when robbers shot him during a patrol.
