MoU signed on enhancing mineral exploration

LAHORE:A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Punjab Department of Minerals and the Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) to enhance mineral exploration, development, and sustainable mining in the province.

On this occasion, Minister for Minerals Sher Ali Gorchani said that this agreement establishes a framework for strategic cooperation between the two institutions, which will facilitate scientific analysis of mineral deposits and the adoption of modern technology in the future.

Addressing the ceremony, Sher Ali Gorchani said that under this partnership, the Geological Survey of Pakistan will provide technical assistance in identifying lithium, placer gold, and other industrial minerals in the province. Additionally, it will support ongoing exploration efforts in mineral-rich regions such as Punjab’s major rivers and the Sulaiman Range.

He emphasised that this agreement will not only promote innovation in mineral exploration but will also strengthen the scientific understanding of Punjab’s mineral potential. The minister reaffirmed the department’s commitment to promoting sustainable mining and contributing to the economic development of the province.

The minister also highlighted that in the coming years, advanced technologies and methodologies would be introduced for resource assessment and effective management, ensuring a more robust and developed mineral sector. The ceremony was attended by Minerals Secretary Parvez Iqbal, Director General of Mines and Minerals Mansoor Ahmad, and other senior officials.
