LAHORE:Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin, along with Wasa Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz, inaugurated the replacement of sewer lines on Khyabaan-e-Firdausi Road here on Monday.
MNA Saiful Malook Khokhar, MPA Malik Shahbaz Khokhar and Malik Irfan Shafi were also present on the occasion. Housing Minister Bilal Yasin said that the project would be completed in a short period of 10 months at a total cost of Rs1.9 billion. The rotten sewer lines were being replaced from Shouk Chowk to Shaukat Khanum Chowk. Several accidents have occurred on Khyabaan-e-Ferdowsi Road due to caving in of the road in recent past. On the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, alternative routes and traffic flow will be maintained from the start of the project. This year will be a year of relief in electricity bills, economic development and public relief, said the minister while Wasa Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shahbaz said that the sewer lines would be replaced and the road would be constructed in 4.5 kilometers. After the completion of this project, the drainage problem of the residents of Johar Town and adjacent societies will be solved, he added.
MNA Saiful Muluk Khokhar said that the project was being started on the instructions of Maryam Nawaz for the safety and convenience of the citizens. A large number of area elders and PMLN workers were present on the occasion.
Zeeshan for equal sanitation facilities in cities, villages
Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafiq has said equal sanitation facilities should be provided in cities and villages.
The minister said this at a meeting held at the Civil Secretariat to review the Suthra Punjab Programme. Zeeshan Rafiq said that on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a phased review of all waste management companies is being conducted. “The people’s full trust in the Suthra Punjab Programme is an honour for us”, he observed. The provincial minister took notice of non-fulfillment of targets in some areas of Nankana Sahib and directed for reaching all rural areas within a week.
He warned that the excuse of shortage of machinery and equipment will no longer be accepted. “Equal sanitation facilities should be provided in cities and villages”, he vowed. Zeeshan Rafiq said that no laxity in monitoring will be tolerated. “LWMC officers should conduct regular field visits. No concessions will be given to absent staff”, he warned. He said that action should be taken on complaints within the stipulated time and pictorial evidence should be sent to control room.
The local government minister expressed satisfaction that a new local industry is flourishing due to ‘Clean Punjab’. “New employment opportunities have been created by recruiting staff from local area itself. Undoubtedly, the vision of the CM is taking the form of a movement”, he noted. The local government minister strictly instructed that Clean Punjab means that garbage should not be collected anywhere. Roads and vacant plots should not be neglected at all. Work done so far in four districts of Lahore Division came in to the consideration.
