LAHORE:The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Pakistan has strongly condemned the Sindh government's recent decision to alter the criteria for appointing Vice Chancellors (VCs) in public sector universities.
FAPUASA also announced to fully support the ongoing strike of its Sindh chapter terming it a legitimate protest against this illogical and detrimental decision. The president of FAPUASA, Dr Amajd, also denounced the statement made by the Chief Minister of Sindh, in which he justified the change by alleging moral and financial corruption among VCs. The CM, as an educated individual, must recognise that universities are academic institutions responsible for awarding degrees, including bachelor's, master's, and PhDs. It is inconceivable for a VC without a PhD to oversee academic councils, syndicates, and selection boards or to confer PhD degrees, he added.
Dr Magsi further stated that the CM’s remarks not only undermined the dignity of VCs but also disregarded the role of the HEC, which is tasked with setting the criteria for the appointment of VCs and faculty members.
