Foundation stone of two water tanks laid

LAHORE : Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has inaugurated construction of two underground rainwater reservoirs in the low lying localities of the provincial capital here on Saturday.

The project was started on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, said Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yasin after laying the foundation stone for the construction of underground water tanks in Garden Town and Allama Iqbal Town.

On this occasion, Wasa MD Ghufran Ahmed gave a detailed briefing about the completion of the project. The underground water tank will be built with an estimated cost of Rs450 million in Garden Town and will be able to store 1.5 million gallons of water. The water tank in Allama Iqbal Town will be built at a cost of Rs612 million and will be able to store 1.5 million gallons of water.

Addressing the public, Bilal Yasin said that the solution to local problems is Maryam Nawaz's top priority. Facilities will be available at the doorstep of the house. There will be no ponds on the streets and lanes after rain, clean roads and lanes.

The minister announced that as many as 10 underground water tanks will be installed in different low-lying areas of the provincial capital. He said the two newly inaugurated projects will be completed in 90 days and drainage problems will be overcome in the current season.

He said the low-lying areas will be cleared with such underground water tank projects, during the rains, water used to accumulate up to 2 feet in the adjacent areas, water used to enter the houses in the low-lying areas of Garden Town.

The provincial minister while talking about the Al-Qadir Trust case verdict, said that Imran Khan has been convicted in a criminal case. Nawaz Sharif was removed from the prime ministership for not taking salary from his son and for not having an Iqama.
