LAHORE:Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that Punjab will fully cooperate in starting a residency programme in Turkiye and there is great need to promote medical tourism between Pakistan and Turkiye.
He said this while talking to a two-member delegation from Turkiye which called on him at King Edward Medical University (KEMU) on Monday. The Turkish delegation included Dr Egan Yeniçin and Dr Fateh Bunol. On this occasion, Vice Chancellor KEMU Prof Mahmood Ayaz, Registrar University Prof M Imran, Focal Person Dr Zahid Pervez and Prof Aamir Zaman Khan were present.
Khawaja Salman and the Turkish medical delegation discussed matters of mutual interest at the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research, medical education, medical tourism, residency programme and other matters. The provincial minister said that Pakistan and Turkiye have long-standing, deep and close relations. Turkiye is admirable for its health system. First and largest Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research in the history of Pakistan is being built in Lahore, the heart of Punjab. Medical education is being promoted in Punjab. He said that OPD will be started at Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research this year. At the government level, Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research will be the first cancer hospital where all facilities will be available under one roof, he added. Turkish medical experts said they will cooperate with Pakistan in every possible way to combat cancer. Discussions have been held on the nuclear medicine programme. Pakistani doctors, nurses and paramedics will be trained. KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz informed about the current construction and other stages of the hospital. He said that work is going on rapidly on Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cancer Treatment and Research.
Minister plants sapling at UVAS campus
Provincial Minister for Higher Education Punjab Rana Sikandar Hayat paid a visit to the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore's Ravi Campus Pattoki where he met with Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M Younus.
He also planted a sapling in front of Akram Complex for the promotion of greenery at Ravi Campus. Rana Sikandar visited various sections of Prof Dr M Akram Educational Complex including library and auditorium. While addressing the audience in Akram Complex, the provincial minister said that in near future he would manage E-buses for Ravi Campus students and also provide better medical facilities by managing staff and facilities at Ravi Campus university hospital, he added. He also ensured his full support and cooperation for the uplift of UVAS. Prof Dr M Younus mentioned initiation of new undergraduate degree programmes at Ravi Campus. He also mentioned steps recently taken for the welfare of farming communities including fee reduction up to 50 % for the students.
