LAHORE:The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), Lahore, on Monday requested the governor to reject the resignation of the vice chancellor of Nishtar Medical University, as she tendered it “under pressure,” and demanded a high-level inquiry into kidney patients’ dialysis that reportedly caused AIDS spread

This was stated by Prof Ashraf Nizami, President PMA Lahore, Dr Kamran Saeed, President PMA Punjab, Prof. Shahid Malik, General Secretary PMA Lahore, Dr. Izhar Ahmad Chaudhry, and others, at a press conference at PMA House.

They alleged a woman vice chancellor had suffered humiliation at the hands of a woman chief minister. They maintained that dialysis machine has inbuilt disinfection capability and the probability of AIDS spread is very low. They raised some technical issues, and asked if the government investigated any third party negligence?

They said there are differences in the guidelines of the Punjab Health Department, AIDS Control Programme regarding dialysis in the duration of testing and the Health Department has issued new guidelines a few days ago, pointing towards policy chaos in the department.

They demanded that a high-level inquiry committee comprising Infectious Disease Expert, nephrologists, epidemiologists, biomedical engineer, AIDS Control Program expert, Representative of Punjab Healthcare Commission, a retired judge, civil society representatives, under the supervision of the PMA.
