Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Khadim-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme, the biggest project of repair and rehabilitation of rural roads in the history of the country, is continuing speedily and thousands of kilometres long roads have been repaired and constructed so far.
He said that under a phased programme, a huge amount of Rs 150 billion would be spent on this project which would change the living standard of the rural masses. He said that such a big programme of repair and rehabilitation of rural roads had never been started in the history of the country. He said that 'Pakian Sarkan—Saukhay Painday' was a milestone in the prosperity of rural economy and would bring about a revolution in rural life.
He was talking to a delegation of parliamentarians from various districts here on Saturday. The chief minister said that modern means of communication played an important role in accelerating trade and economic activities, and keeping in view this fact, Punjab government was spending billions of rupees on the project of infrastructure development.
He said that repair and rehabilitation of rural roads was promoting economic and trade activities in the rural areas. He said that new job opportunities had been created in villages due to implementation of the programme of repair and rehabilitation of rural roads and thousands of people had benefited. Shahbaz Sharif said that maintenance and protection of the roads constructed under this programme was a national responsibility and there was a need for adopting effective measures for this purpose. He said that progress and prosperity of the people living in villages was the motto of Pakistan Muslim League-N government, and timely, quality and transparent completion of development projects was the policy of Punjab government.
The chief minister said that the elements criticising public welfare projects were not sincere wit the people. He said that a journey of progress and prosperity had been started under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and the elements involved in politics of protest were once again trying to waste the precious time of the nation.
He said the enlightened people of the country would not allow anyone to hamper the process of progress and development.
PITB chairman: Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday congratulated Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) Chairman Dr Omer Saiif on invitation of participation in Global Entrepreneurship Conference at White House.
He said it was the first time in the history of the country that an opportunity was being given to a Pakistani to participate in this conference.
He said that Dr Omer Saif had played a prominent role in the promotion of information technology and use of information technology for capacity-building of government institutions in Punjab. He said that Information Technology University headed by Dr Omer Saif was equipping the youth with modern technology.
