LAHORE
A three-day vice chancellors’ committee meeting being hosted by the federal Higher Education Commission (HEC) starts at a local hotel on Monday (today).
After formal inauguration, likely to be by the Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on the first day of the event, will include a presentation by the HEC Chairperson Dr Mukhtar Ahmed followed by a panel discussion on quality assurance and related issues.
The second day of the meeting will take up a really hot issue being faced by the universities across the country, implementation of the Tenure Track Statutes/System and the related issues, while a panel discussion on the role of state, media and universities in promoting societal development, discourse and peace in society will also be held later in the day.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently the HEC taking a notice had directed the universities across the country to ensure true implementation of the TTS statutes by not assigning administrative posts to faculty members serving on Tenure Track System.
The commission had also observed TTS faculty members serving on administrative posts were not eligible to draw the TTS salary and the same should be surrendered in such cases. However, the universities have yet to take this issue seriously as at many varsities the TTS faculty members are still holding administrative posts.
The last day of the meeting will feature a panel discussion on the governance of higher education institutions with special reference to opening of sub-campuses and affiliated institutions. A session on security situation and concerns in the higher education institutes (HEIs) has also been planned for the third and last day of the meeting.
