Three bodies found

Three people, unidentified so far, were found dead in different parts of the city on Sunday. A 25-year-old youth was found dead in the area of Tibbi City police, a 50-year-old man in the Data Darbar police jurisdiction and a 60-year-old man in the Qila Gujjar Singh police area. Police suspected they were addicts who might have died of scorching heat or overdoses of drugs. The bodies have been shifted to morgue.

Fireworks seized: Factory Area police arrested a man and seized a huge quantity of fireworks items. The arrested fireworks dealer was identified as Raza Taj. He was going to supply fireworks when police intercepted him following information and arrested him. A huge quantity of fireworks items were seized.

Six arrested: Gawalmandi police conducted a search operation on Sunday and arrested six suspects, including two Afghan nationals. The arrested suspects had failed to produce their identification papers for checking. All the six suspects were dispatched to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

Light rain forecast today

Mercury continued to remain high in the provincial capital forcing the citizens to stay indoors even on holiday on Sunday while Met office predicted light rain on early Monday (today).

Met Office said the maximum temperature remained at 42 C while humidity increased to 32 per cent. Increase in humidity has made it more difficult for the citizens to come out. However, a large number of citizens reached Lahore canal to spend the entire day with their families and friends in cool water. Met officials said that low pressure area lies over north Balochistan with its trough extending southeastward. A fresh western disturbance is likely to affect upper parts of the country on Sunday night and may persist till Tuesday. Rain-thunderstorm with strong gusty winds / dust-storm is expected at scattered places of upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Mardan divisions), Islamabad, upper Punjab (Sargodha, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Lahore divisions), FATA, GB and Kashmir. Rain-thunderstorm/Dust raising winds/dust-storm, Met office said, adding rain is also expected at isolated places of DI Khan, Bannu, Multan, DG Khan, Quetta, Zhob, Sukkur & Larkana divisions. They concluded that hot & dry weather would persist over rest of the country.

As per Met office report, highest maximum temperatures recorded in various cities across the country included 50°C at Sibbi, Jacobabad, Sh Benazirabad and Bhakkar, 49 C at Larkana, Moenjodaro and Noorpul Thal, 48 C at Dadu, Sukkur, Rohri and Padidan and 47 C at RY Khan and DI Khan. —Correspondent
