City receives scattered rain; more showers forecast

LAHORE:Moderate to light scattered rain was reported in the City here on Wednesday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions for the next 24 hours.

The rain started in the afternoon and continued till evening in spans in different areas. The rain slowed traffic on roads and rainwater accumulated in various points. Wasa MD Ghafran Ahmed visited various places including Sheranwala Gate where Director Ravi Town Hafiz Raheel Ashraf gave him a briefing. The MD gave directions for a complete sweeping of all roads. He inspected the work of lowering greenbelts and directed for lowering the level of parks within a stipulated time. He said all safety measures should be observed while working.

The MD said the objective of lowering greenbelts and parks was to improve the flow of water during rains and prevent its accumulation on roads. He visited low-lying areas including Qurtaba Chowk and reviewed the drainage operation.

Meanwhile, Met officials said that monsoon currents at lower tropospheric levels were continuously penetrating from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal to upper parts of the country while a westerly wave was also prevailing over upper parts of the country. Wednesday’s highest maximum temperature was recorded at Nokkundi where mercury reached 45°C while in Lahore it was 35.0°C and minimum was 26.3°C.
